St. Paul’s was founded in 1956 in what was then southeast El Paso. Through the years, our people have sought to live faithfully and share God’s love in the Cielo Vista area of the city, near Fort Bliss. During the past several years, we have identified our mission to be to love God, follow Jesus and serve others through our ministries and missional outreach efforts.
At St. Paul’s we understand loving God to mean listening to God through the study of God’s word and through the wisdom of our sisters and brothers in the faith. We do this through worshipping together each week, studying together in Sunday school classes and other small groups and engaging in personal study of God’s word in our daily lives.
Jesus calls us just as he called his first disciples, to follow his example in ways that invite others to follow as well. For us at St. Paul’s, this means that we particularly seek to follow the model that Jesus set for us in offering compassion to those who suffer, in devoting ourselves to discerning the will of God and to seeking and offering forgiveness and reconciliation in our relationships.
Just before he died, Jesus washed the feet of his disciples as an example of how he was calling them to serve others. Here at St. Paul’s we seek both to serve others in humility but also to have the humility needed to be served, as well, recognizing that we all are in need of God’s love and grace, equally.
